 I went up to Twin waters on Friday and played a practice round in the afternoon with our team and Richard Gompels, Pro from McLeod Golf Club.
My Ipswich team of me, Cassandra Elsden, Lyn Allan and Trish Harris went under the McLeod name, as we qualified at McLeod course in August. We played Saturday and Sunday (Rounds 1 and 2) We played Cromer ladies’ team (NSW) on Monday for the national final of the women’s holden scramble. Unfortunately we had to chase them by 3.6 shots on the final day, and lost the final by 7 shots. For the final round, we had Richard again in our team, with a lady tour pro – Kate Dunn. We could use Kate’s shots anywhere, but still had to have 3 drives for the other 5 players. Cromer’s handicap was 9 and we had 6.7 for the rounds and the final. Overall, with 29 teams playing (men’s/mixed and women’s) my team came 13th. Good result. We won a newly released brand Callaway Razar driver (approx.. $600) for coming 2nd, while the Cromer ladies won a Sureshot GPS device and a trip to CHINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Next year either March or April. That’s okay, as our No. 1 hitter (Cassandra Elsden) is having her baby in March next year. We had a Welcome dinner on the Friday night at the Novetel resort, free night on Saturday (early to bed!!!!!!) Sunday night we had a Gala Costume dinner – I went as ZORRO!!!!! Monday night was the award presentation dinner with fireworks over the pool area at the Novetel. All paid for by Holden/Callaway and other sponsors. Even if I don’t ever qualify for this event again, the experience of the 4 days at Twin Waters, treated like kings and queens will remain with me. Tuesday morning returned to Ipswich to have our golf AGM and prize luncheon, then travelled down to Hope Island for their Rosebowl Christmas event. Stayed at Azzura Greens Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and got back to Ipswich this morning to go straight to physiotherapy for my aches and pains. Twin Waters and Hope Island are in excellent condition and a pleasure to play on – WIDE FAIRWAYS/FLAT/EASY TO GET AROUND GREENS & TEES!!!!!!!!!! |
